WOODCOCK (SCOLOPAX RUSTICOLA)
There are two hunting seasons for this migrant species in Romania. Spring season means the months of March, April, depending on the weather conditions. Fall season means October, November.
The woodcock lives in woodlands, river meadows, the Danube Delta, along the branches and canals, where soil is moist, of high humidity, facilitating food finding (earth worm, small worms, larvae). Woodcock may be found also up to altitudes of 500 - 600 meteres.

Weight of an adult bird is of 250 - 300 grams.

Hunting type is by foot with pointer dog or hunt on evening flight.
Hunting by foot is a special, sportsmen's hunting, specially dedicated to the passionates of that type of hunting. In the fourable years, 5-15 woodcocks may be seen in one hunting day. It requires a good physical conditions, as sometimes 10 km a day have to be covered.
We recommend groups of 3 to 6 persons.
Recommended gun: shot gun, pellet diameter 2.5 mm (No. 7).
